Celebration of Life

Poetry and religious or other readings are often used to commemorate the passing of a loved one. However, many of us want to write a more personal tribute ─ an expression of how our loved ones have affected our lives in meaningful ways. We want to gracefully, generously, and sincerely honor those whose significance is difficult to capture in words.

Anecdotes are an effective way of showing, rather than telling, others how our loved ones have  influenced our lives. We can reminisce about moments and events that stand out in our memories as particularly illustrative. We can recall how their actions or words indicated a philosophy or principle they held dear and relay how they offered us comfort or guidance. We can recount touching or funny or even difficult episodes in our relationships that  moved us to tears or laughter or taught us important lessons.
