Join your Friends in a Memoirs That Matter

Mini-Memoir Writing Workshop!

“I remember….” Just saying these two simple words can send us drifting off into reverie, recalling the special and significant events in our lives. So imagine what might happen if we write our memories!

“I remember sitting on my grandmother’s back patio, eating watermelon, playing Chinese checkers, and watching fireflies dance in the yard,” one participant in a Memoirs That Matter workshop writes.

“I remember how my brother whipped me for running into the road and being hit by a car,” begins another. “But he never knew why I ran until I told him thirty years later.”

A Memoirs That Matter life-story workshop will stir up long-forgotten memories, reveal their value, and assist participants to record them. Attendees use their own photographs, letters, and mementos to generate written vignettes about experiences that can later be shared with friends and family.

Workshops use 5-10 minute writing exercises to keep newbie life-story writers from over-thinking (and thus possibly becoming overwhelmed). The time limitation also enables quick identification of memorable experiences and fosters focus while writing. After writing, participants are prompted to answer questions such as “Why was that important to you?” or “Who influenced you to believe that way?” that generate deeper insight into surface events. For those who have difficulty recalling experiences or who feel their lives aren’t sufficiently consequential to warrant recording, topic suggestions such as “Write about your first kiss” or “Write about a problem you had and how you resolved it” motivate ideas and inspire a sense of appreciation for life experiences.

Memoirs That Matter life-story writing workshops are just $100 per person for three hours of fun! They offer an enjoyable, enriching experience for anyone who wants to reach into the past and recover and record their memories. They make great gifts, party activities, and courses for senior homes.
